Who Is Swapnil Kusale? Rifle Shooter Makes History in His Maiden Olympics Appearance

Born on April 6, 1995, in Pune, Maharashtra, Swapnil Kusale comes from an agricultural family. His shooting journey started when his father enrolled him in Maharashtra’s sports program, Krida Prabodhini. After a year of intensive training, Kusale chose to specialize in shooting. His talent and dedication were soon recognized, leading to significant accomplishments within the shooting community.

Swapnil Kusale triumphed over renowned shooters, including Gagan Narang, to win the 59th National Shooting Championship in Tughlakabad. He also secured gold in the 50m rifle prone 3 event at the 2015 Asian Shooting Championships in Kuwait. His winning streak continued at the 1st National Championship in Trivandrum, where he clinched another gold in the 50m rifle 3-position event. Kusale qualified for the Olympics after finishing fourth at the 2022 World Championship in Cairo. His consistency shone through with two silver medals and a gold at the 2023 Baku World Cup and a team gold at the 2022 Asian Games.

At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Swapnil Kusale showcased his precision and skill in the Men’s 50m Rifle Three Positions competition, earning a bronze medal with a score of 451.4 points. Y.K. Liu of China claimed the gold with 463.6 points, and S. Kulish of Ukraine took the silver with 461.3 points. Kusale’s remarkable achievement not only brought pride to India but also affirmed his status as a top global competitor in shooting sports. This accomplishment marked India’s third shooting medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
