Taylor Swift Claps Back at Critics Judging Her Normal Dating Life
Taylor Swift has chosen to respond to those who believe they can pass judgment on her dating decisions and her life.
American pop sensation Taylor Swift has recently released her re-recorded version of the 2014 album ‘1989.’ In the album’s liner notes, the singer contemplated the “intensity and unrelenting nature” of the scrutiny she faced during her earlier career.
The pop star penned a reflection about how, at the age of 24, she made the decision to undergo a complete reinvention. She discussed her feelings regarding the public and media scrutiny of her relationships, stating, “The voices that had started to shame me in new ways for dating like a typical young woman? I wanted to silence them.”
She went on to explain, “You see, in the years leading up to this, I had become the target of slut-shaming, the intensity and persistence of which would likely face criticism and condemnation if it were to occur today. The jokes about the number of my boyfriends, the belittling of my songwriting as if it were a predatory act by a boy-crazy psychopath, and the media’s endorsement of this narrative. I needed to put a stop to it because it was beginning to cause real pain.”
In this week’s album liner notes, she expressed her decision to abstain from engaging in “anything that could be manipulated to harm me by a society that professed to support women’s liberation but consistently subjected me to the strict moral standards reminiscent of the Victorian Era.”
Then, she addressed her famous “squad” of female friends, which made the fans to speculate that the icon could be queer, which she has never stated she is.
“If I only hung out with my female friends, people couldn’t sensationalize or sexualize that — right?” wrote the singer-songwriter.
“I would learn later on that people could and people would.”
She added that “everyone has something to say” about her behaviour and acknowledged that “they always will.”
Then, the iconic music legend referenced to most famous tunes writing, “I learned lessons, paid prices, and tried to … don’t say it … don’t say it … I’m sorry, I have to say it … shake it off,”
