Surfing Lay Day Fun in Tahiti as Athletes Await Paris 2024 Competition to Resume

Lay days, when surfing conditions fall short, leading to competition delays, are times for surfers to run errands like grocery shopping and laundry. After excellent conditions on Monday, July 29, surfers at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games had two lay days. Competitions are expected to resume on August 1 with women’s round three, followed by the men’s and women’s quarter-finals.

These back-to-back lay days have allowed surfers to reflect on a historic Monday filled with incredible barrel rides, a viral photo, and challenging Teahupo’o waves during the men’s round three. Despite the break, many surfers have returned to the water, eager for any surfable waves.

Olympic champion Carissa Moore, world champion Caroline Marks, and fellow American Caity Simmers, along with Aussies Molly Picklum and Ethan Ewing, have been seen enjoying the waves. Wherever there’s a rideable wave, surfers will find it.
