Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh make history by winning bronze in the 10m air pistol mixed team event at the Paris Olympics, securing India’s second medal.

Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh made history for India on Tuesday by securing the bronze medal in the 10m air pistol mixed team event at the National Shooting Centre in Chateauroux. This victory marks India’s second medal at the Paris Olympics, following Manu’s bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event on Sunday.

After finishing third in the qualification round on Monday, Manu and Sarabjot faced South Korea’s Lee Wonho and Oh Ye Jin in the bronze playoff. Despite losing the first round, the Indian pair won the next four rounds, gaining an 8-2 lead and never relinquishing it. The South Koreans attempted a comeback, but Manu and Sarabjot extended their lead to 14-6.

Manu’s performance was exceptional, consistently shooting above 10 in her thirteen rounds, except for scores of 8.3, 9.6, and 9.4, with her best shots being 10.7 in the second and third rounds.

Sarabjot Singh initially struggled with a score of 8.6 but gradually improved, finishing strong with two 10.2s to secure a 16-10 victory.

In the gold medal match, Serbian shooters Zorana Arunovic and Damir Mikec claimed the top prize by defeating Turkey’s Sevval Ilayda Tarhan and Yusuf Dikec with a score of 16-14.

With this bronze medal, Manu Bhaker becomes the first Indian to win two medals in a single Olympic Games. She is also the second Indian woman, following shuttler PV Sindhu, to achieve this feat. Manu joins wrestler Sushil Kumar and PV Sindhu as the only Indian athletes to win two individual Olympic medals.
