In a historic moment, Kangana Ranaut becomes the first woman to lead the Ravan Dahan

“Kangana Ranaut joined Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at the Red Fort to participate in the Ravana effigy burning ceremony at the Lav Kush Ramleela. During the Dussehra celebration, actress Kangana Ranaut took on the role of performing the Ravan Dahan at the prestigious Lav Kush Ramleela event in New Delhi. This marked a historic moment in the 50-year history of the event, traditionally held at the Red Fort, as it was the first time a woman ignited the demon king’s effigy by shooting an arrow, as stated by Arjun Singh, the president of the Lav Kush Ramleela Committee of Delhi.”

Singh explained that the committee’s decision was influenced by the Women’s Reservation Bill, which recently received parliamentary approval. He mentioned that every year, their event is graced by a VIP, whether it’s a film star or a politician. Past attendees have included former President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as well as film stars like Ajay Devgn and John Abraham. Last year, Prabhas had the honor of performing the Ravan Dahan. However, this year marks a historic occasion in the 50-year history of their event as it will be a woman taking on the role of performing the Ravan Dahan, he shared with PTI.

The Lav Kush Ramleela Committee is advocating for gender equality. While women’s participation in various spheres of life is on the rise, there is still a significant journey ahead. Singh expressed to PTI that the Women’s Reservation Bill will contribute to the advancement of the nation and society.

In order to promote equality, it is imperative to eliminate narrow-mindedness, he emphasized. He further stated, “Now, a woman can also ignite the Ravan effigy, she can vanquish evil as well. Women should have this privilege. That’s why we selected Kangana ji for this role,” as added by Singh.

Ranaut is currently promoting her film Tejas, scheduled to be released on Friday. The movie, written and directed by Sarvesh Mewara, features her in the role of an Indian Air Force pilot.
