Google’s 25th Anniversary: Exploring the Company’s Celebrations
Google is marking its 25th anniversary on September 27th by reflecting on its rich history, including an interesting anecdote involving Jennifer Lopez’s dress that contributed to its evolution. The colossal search engine, born in 1998, is revisiting some of the internet’s earliest searches.
“Twenty-five years ago, we introduced Google Search to assist you in uncovering answers to a wide range of questions,” Google stated in its official corporate blog.
Since then, billions of individuals have relied on our products to fulfill a variety of needs — to satiate their curiosity, embark on entrepreneurial endeavors, commence journeys, or even learn how to slice a pineapple,” it elaborated.

The company highlighted a pivotal moment on February 23, 2000, when Jennifer Lopez donned a distinctive green Versace dress at the 42nd Grammy Awards.
Suddenly, there was a surge in people wanting to search for images of that dress, as Google explained.
“That search yielded 10 blue links, but no trace of the green dress,” Google mentioned in its blog post. “Consequently, our engineers set to work, brainstorming innovative methods to index images alongside webpages, and this marked the birth of Google Images, enabling users to discover their desired photos more swiftly than ever.”
Over the past 25 years, Google users have played a pivotal role in shaping the evolution of the search engine.
“Whether you’re seeking to learn how to tie a knot or plan a wedding, maintain your health or stay informed — every chapter of our story has been a collaborative effort with you,” the company expressed.
Google users have also grown accustomed to the daily Doodle gracing the Google homepage, paying homage to holidays, notable birthdays, intriguing historical facts, inventions, dates, or events. This tradition started in 1998 when Google’s founders, Sergey Brin and Larry Page, playfully modified their corporate logo to reflect their visit to the Burning Man festival in Nevada, resulting in a simple stick man alongside the word “Google.”
Over time, Google has assembled a team of Doodle creators who have celebrated diverse occasions, from Bastille Day to the 119th anniversary of the first ice cream sundae in 2011. The team has delighted users with interactive videos and games, such as the epic “Birth of Hip-Hop” video in 2017 and a crossword puzzle commemorating the game’s 100th anniversary in 2019.
In honor of its 25th anniversary, the company crafted a special Doodle tracing the evolution of the Google logo, culminating in a unique 25th birthday logo.
Google also shared 25 intriguing facts about the company and its history, including:
- The number of Doodles created by Google: 5,000+
- The maximum time limit to unsend an email in Gmail: 30 seconds
- The number of languages supported by Google Translate: 133
- The number of photos edited in Google Photos every month: 1.7 billion
On its birthday, Google isn’t merely reminiscing; it’s also looking ahead to the future.
“We are enthusiastic about envisioning new ways in which technology can be of assistance to you daily and find constant inspiration in the remarkable achievements you’ve accomplished through its use,” the company remarked.
“We also remain humble about the potential that lies ahead,” it added, “and the capacity of artificial intelligence to help us persist in fulfilling our mission and enhancing the lives of even more individuals across the globe.”
