Mohammed Siraj’s emergence as a fast bowler was remarkably rapid. Hailing from Hyderabad, he came from humble beginnings as the son of an autorickshaw driver and began his cricket journey in the seventh grade. It wasn’t until 2015 that he first started bowling with a cricket ball. In 2017, he secured an IPL contract valued at INR 2.6 crore, and shortly thereafter, he found himself donning the Indian jersey, representing the country in T20 internationals against New Zealand.
Physically robust and athletic, Siraj possesses a deceptive run-up that might initially suggest he’s a left-arm bowler charging in. However, he’s actually a right-arm fast bowler who possesses a natural ability to swing the ball into the right-handed batsmen. His ability to deliver a quick bouncer has always been impressive, earning praise from his captain, David Warner, and team mentor, VVS Laxman, during his stint with the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL.

Siraj’s potential was quickly translated into on-field performance when, in only his second season of playing in the Ranji Trophy, he emerged as the highest wicket-taker for his state, claiming 41 wickets in nine matches. Following this success, he was selected to represent the Rest of India and was also included in the India A team for a tour of South Africa in July-August 2017. His journey to the highest echelons of cricket came shortly after these achievements.
