Chandrayaan 3 Lunar Landing Latest Updates: On Wednesday evening, the lander module of Chandrayaan 3, ISRO’s third lunar mission, is poised to make an attempt at landing on the Moon. If the landing is successful, India will achieve the distinction of becoming the first nation to reach the unexplored south pole of the Moon, our planet’s natural satellite. Chandrayaan 3 follows in the footsteps of Chandrayaan-2 and has the primary objectives of showcasing a secure and gentle landing on the lunar surface, mobile exploration on the Moon, and the execution of on-site scientific investigations. The significance of the Moon’s south pole region stems from the potential presence of water in shaded areas nearby. The lander and rover of Chandrayaan 3 are designed for a mission duration of one lunar day, equivalent to approximately 14 Earth days, during which they will scrutinize the environment around the Moon’s south pole. There remains a possibility that the lander module could reactivate for another lunar day, according to ISRO officials. The lander, christened ‘Vikram’ in honor of Vikram Sarabhai, a pioneer in India’s space program, boasts a total weight of 1749.86 kg, which includes a 26 kg rover. It possesses a box-like structure, featuring four landing legs and an equal number of landing thrusters, and is equipped with side-mounted solar panels capable of generating 738 W. At 5:45pm IST, the Vikram lander will embark on its ultimate descent, accompanied by the rover, towards the Moon’s south polar region, with an anticipated landing around 19 minutes later.

Chandrayaan-3 Live Updates:
Set Aside 30 Minutes Tonight to Witness the Moon Landing
ISRO’s S Somanath indicated that the complete lunar landing process is projected to last approximately 30 minutes. “The precise timetable will be contingent upon the functioning of the systems and the conditions during landing. We must determine whether to touch down at the initial visible site or opt for a safer location based on hazard detection,” he explained.
