Who will win?
Meanwhile, concerning this year’s awards, several names from the Bollywood industry are also making their way into the speculations. Particularly noteworthy is the category of Best Actress, where Alia Bhatt and Kangana Ranaut have emerged as potential candidates based on their performances in “Gangubai Kathiawadi” (2022) and “Thalaivii” (2021) respectively. Kangana, a seasoned actor with multiple National Awards to her credit, has secured one in the Supporting Actress category for “Fashion” (2008) and three as Best Actress for her roles in “Queen” (2014), “Tanu Weds Manu Returns” (2015), “Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi” (2019), as well as “Panga” (2020) respectively. On the other hand, Alia recently clinched the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her portrayal in “Gangubai Kathiawadi”.
On a contrasting note, SS Rajamouli’s film “RRR” is also vying for significant recognition at the National Awards. Both Ram Charan and Jr NTR, the stars of the movie, are also contenders. “RRR” achieved remarkable international acclaim and enjoyed a remarkable journey to the Oscars just last month. The track titled ‘Naatu Naatu’ created history by becoming the first song from an Indian production to secure an Oscar. The accolade was earned by composer MM Keeravani and lyricist Chandrabose in the Best Original Song category. The song was in competition with other nominees such as Rihanna’s ‘Lift Me Up’ from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” ‘This Is A Life’ from “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” ‘Applause’ from “Tell It Like a Woman,” and Lady Gaga’s ‘Hold My Hand’ from “Top Gun: Maverick.”
